Ṣalawāt & Durood upon the Prophet ﷺ

Allah said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send prayers upon the Prophet — O you who believe, send prayers upon him and greet him with peace.” (al-Aḥzāb 33:56)

Ṣalawāt

Ṣalāt al-Ibrāhīmiyyah

الصَّلَاةُ الْإِبْرَاهِيمِيَّةُ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdum Majīd. Allāhumma bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdum Majīd.

English

O Allah, send prayers upon Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm — indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm — indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Urdu

اے اللہ! محمد ﷺ اور آل محمد پر رحمت نازل فرما، جیسے تو نے ابراہیم اور آل ابراہیم پر رحمت نازل فرمائی۔ بے شک تو تعریف والا، بزرگی والا ہے۔ اے اللہ! محمد ﷺ اور آل محمد پر برکت نازل فرما، جیسے تو نے ابراہیم اور آل ابراہیم پر برکت نازل فرمائی۔ بے شک تو تعریف والا، بزرگی والا ہے۔

O Allah, send prayers, peace, and blessings upon our master Muḥammad ﷺ.

اے اللہ! ہمارے سردار محمد ﷺ پر درود، سلام اور برکت نازل فرما۔

الصَّلَاةُ النَّارِيَّةُ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ صَلَاةً كَامِلَةً وَسَلِّمْ سَلَامًا تَامًّا عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، الَّذِي تُنْحَلُّ بِهِ الْعُقَدُ، وَتَنْفَرِجُ بِهِ الْكُرَبُ، وَتُقْضَىٰ بِهِ الْحَوَائِجُ، وَتُنَالُ بِهِ الرَّغَائِبُ وَحُسْنُ الْخَوَاتِيمِ، وَيُسْتَسْقَى الْغَمَامُ بِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ، وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ فِي كُلِّ لَمْحَةٍ وَنَفَسٍ بِعَدَدِ كُلِّ مَعْلُومٍ لَكَ

Allāhumma ṣalli ṣalātan kāmilatan wa sallim salāman tāmman ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammad, alladhī tunḥallu bihi-l-ʿuqad, wa tanfariju bihi-l-kurab, wa tuqḍā bihi-l-ḥawāʾij, wa tunālu bihi-r-raghāʾib wa ḥusnu-l-khawātīm, wa yustasqā-l-ghamāmu bi-wajhihi-l-karīm, wa ʿalā ālihī wa ṣaḥbihī fī kulli lamḥatin wa nafasin bi-ʿadadi kulli maʿlūmin lak.

English

O Allah, send perfect prayers and complete peace upon our master Muḥammad ﷺ — through whom knots are untied, distresses are relieved, needs are fulfilled, desires and good endings are attained, and rain is sought by his noble face — and upon his family and companions, in every glance and breath, by the number of all that is known to You.

Urdu

اے اللہ! ہمارے سردار محمد ﷺ پر کامل درود اور مکمل سلام بھیج، جن کے وسیلے سے گرہیں کھلتی ہیں، مصیبتیں دور ہوتی ہیں، حاجتیں پوری ہوتی ہیں، اور خواہشات اور اچھا انجام حاصل ہوتا ہے، اور جن کے کریم چہرے کے وسیلے سے بادلوں سے بارش طلب کی جاتی ہے، اور آپ کی آل و اصحاب پر بھی، ہر لمحے اور سانس میں، تیرے علم میں آنے والی ہر چیز کے شمار کے برابر۔

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَاتِحِ لِمَا أُغْلِقَ، وَالْخَاتِمِ لِمَا سَبَقَ، نَاصِرِ الْحَقِّ بِالْحَقِّ، وَالْهَادِي إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ، وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَمِقْدَارِهِ الْعَظِيمِ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin-il-fātiḥi limā ughliq, wal-khātimi limā sabaq, nāṣiri-l-ḥaqqi bil-ḥaqq, wal-hādī ilā ṣirāṭika-l-mustaqīm, wa ʿalā ālihī ḥaqqa qadrihī wa miqdārihī-l-ʿaẓīm.

English

O Allah, send prayers upon our master Muḥammad ﷺ — the opener of what was closed, the seal of what came before, the helper of truth by truth, the guide to Your straight path — and upon his family, in the measure of his true rank and majesty.

Urdu

اے اللہ! ہمارے سردار محمد ﷺ پر درود بھیج، جو بند چیزوں کو کھولنے والے، پہلی چیزوں پر مہر لگانے والے، حق کو حق کے ساتھ مدد دینے والے، اور تیرے سیدھے راستے کی طرف ہدایت دینے والے ہیں، اور آپ کی آل پر بھی، آپ کی حقیقی قدر اور عظیم شان کے مطابق۔

صَلَاةٌ مُوجَزَةٌ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيمًا

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin-in-nabiyyi-l-ummiyyi wa ʿalā ālihī wa sallim taslīmā.

English

O Allah, send prayers upon Muḥammad ﷺ, the unlettered Prophet, and upon his family, and grant them abundant peace.

Urdu

اے اللہ! امی نبی محمد ﷺ اور ان کی آل پر درود بھیج اور خوب سلامتی نازل فرما۔

الصَّلَاةُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، صَلَاةً تُنْجِينَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْأَهْوَالِ وَالْآفَاتِ، وَتَقْضِي لَنَا بِهَا جَمِيعَ الْحَاجَاتِ، وَتُطَهِّرُنَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ السَّيِّئَاتِ، وَتَرْفَعُنَا بِهَا عِنْدَكَ أَعْلَىٰ الدَّرَجَاتِ، وَتُبَلِّغُنَا بِهَا أَقْصَىٰ الْغَايَاتِ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْخَيْرَاتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ وَبَعْدَ الْمَمَاتِ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, ṣalātan tunjīnā bihā min jamīʿi-l-ahwāli wal-āfāt, wa taqḍī lanā bihā jamīʿa-l-ḥājāt, wa tuṭahhirunā bihā min jamīʿi-s-sayyiʾāt, wa tarfaʿunā bihā ʿindaka aʿlā-d-darajāt, wa tuballighunā bihā aqṣā-l-ghāyāt min jamīʿi-l-khayrāti fi-l-ḥayāti wa baʿda-l-mamāt.

English

O Allah, send upon Muḥammad ﷺ and the family of Muḥammad prayers by which You save us from every terror and calamity, fulfill for us every need, purify us from every sin, raise us before You to the highest ranks, and cause us to reach the furthest goals of every good in this life and after death.

Urdu

اے اللہ! محمد ﷺ اور آل محمد پر ایسا درود بھیج جس کے ذریعے تو ہمیں تمام ہولناکیوں اور آفتوں سے نجات دے، ہماری تمام حاجتیں پوری فرمائے، ہمیں تمام گناہوں سے پاک کرے، اپنے ہاں بلند ترین درجات پر پہنچائے، اور زندگی و موت کے بعد ہر بھلائی کی انتہائی منزلوں تک ہمیں پہنچائے۔

Virtue · Especially recited on Fridays — the day the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Increase your ṣalawāt upon me on the day and night of Jumuʿah.'

A note on non-Prophetic ṣalawāt formulas

Only the Ibrāhīmiyyah ṣalawāt is directly transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ as a fixed formula. The others are compositions of later scholars used devotionally across various traditions — permissible in their meanings but not established as sunnah wordings. When in doubt, prefer the Ibrāhīmiyyah.
