Ṭibb an-Nabawī

Prophetic medicine from Qurʾān & Sunnah

Foods, herbs, and practices the Prophet ﷺ used or recommended — each entry sourced to an authentic ḥadīth, with the duʿāʾ he taught for illness.

Foundational principles
  • Every cure is by the permission of Allah — the means (asbāb) are honoured but do not heal on their own.
  • The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Seek treatment, for Allah has not sent down a disease except that He has sent down a cure for it' (Abū Dāwūd 3855).
  • Prophetic remedies are legitimate means alongside qualified medical care — not a replacement for it.
  • Avoid anything that involves shirk: amulets with unknown scripts, invoking other than Allah, or fortune-tellers.
  • Begin every remedy with 'Bismillāh' and end with gratitude to Allah.

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'My brother's abdomen is upset.' He said, 'Let him drink honey.' The man returned twice more, and each time the Prophet ﷺ said the same. He came a fourth time and said it did not help. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah has spoken the truth and your brother's abdomen has lied. Give him honey to drink.' So he did, and he was cured.

A necessary reminder

Ṭibb an-Nabawī is a means (sabab) — the healing itself is from Allah. These remedies are educational reference, not medical advice; consult a qualified physician for diagnosis and treatment, especially for serious or chronic illness. Combining the Sunnah with sound medicine is itself the Sunnah.
